How do I apply?

To apply, we ask you to upload the following materials via the portal:

images of your work
captions for these images
a short text about your work
a motivation for the grant
a short biography

Below we explain in more detail what is required. Once you have created an account, the SOFAM portal will guide you and invite you to upload the necessary elements. Once you have finalised your application, you will be able to download a PDF of the whole, for your own future reference.

The texts you provide may be written in French, Dutch or English. The jury will consider your work with a view to possible publication in the new SOFAM Revue. When you upload them onto the portal, the images may appear in different proportions on the screen. Don't worry: the jury will see them in their correct proportions when they click on them.

Please prepare the following materials:

A selection of 3 to 7 images of your work

Images can be submitted in low resolution
Make sure you have the images available in high resolution, to send to us in the event of selection
Please note that, in the event of selection, the editorial team will select from the images you provide for publication in the Revue

Captions for these images

For examples, check out the previous SOFAM Revue
Titles can be in the language of your choice
We publish materials in English, but can translate from FR or NL
Images of your work that were taken by someone else, for example, installation views by a photographer, must include their name in the caption. Make sure you obtain any necessary permissions

A short text on your work (max. 220 words)

This text is intended to give readers an introduction to your artistic practice. You can give insights into what motivates you and what fascinates you in your work as an artist. You can give clues about your creative approaches and processes. Alternatively, this text can reflect on the work you have produced. We encourage the use of active verbs, rather than passive forms: this can help with the text's openness.
If you are selected, this text will be published in the SOFAM Revue
Write it in FR, NL or EN, whichever language is most comfortable for you
If you are selected, this text will be edited and translated. You will be consulted about the result
If you already have versions of this text in one or two of the other languages, you may include them too

A short text of motivation (max. 200 words) on how you would like to use the grant

This text is intended to help the jury understand how this grant could help you develop your practice
Write it in FR, NL or EN, whichever language is most comfortable for you
This text will not be published.

A short biography (max. 200 words)

Describe the key stages in your artistic path. You can mention higher education, diplomas, exhibitions, awards, publications... but also other stages in your development. This doesn't have to be a list, or a CV, but the information will help the jury gain insight into where you are situated in your professional development.

Any reference URLs, Instagram accounts, etc.

If you have an artist website, an Instagram account or other site to share that is relevant to your practice, you can include these URLs for extra context.

Have you gathered all your images and captions, and written your texts?

If you are already a SOFAM member, find your membership number
Create an account on the SOFAM application portal: press the "sign up" button higher up this page
You will be invited to upload your materials one by one, via the portal
Finalize your application before 14 February 2024 at 23:59. If at all possible, try to complete it well in advance of this deadline.

Did you hit send and finalize your application?

As soon as you have submitted your application, a confirmation will be sent to you
You will be able to download a PDF summarising the content of your entry
The jury will make its selection in April 2024. If you are selected, we will contact you before 30 April. If you are not yet a member of SOFAM, we will ask you at this time with the request to set up your membership promptly, since membership is a prerequisite for receiving a SOFAM grant
If you haven't heard anything by April 30, you have not been selected for a grant
Given the huge amount of applicants, correspondence on individual applications is unfortunately not possible.
